According to reports, the world’s richest man is currently developing his own AI chatbot to compete with the “woke” ChatGPT’s success. Movies frequently indicate that we should not let our curiosity get the best of us, and that we should never, ever open the door. That being said, leaving the door closed doesn’t seem to make for a particularly interesting story. We appear to be lured to adventure and the unknown.
So, let us proceed to open the door.
In this case, we’re referring to some evolving rumor within the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that could herald either good or bad times for all of us. The incident may have implications for the development of artificial intelligence. And thus, one can obviously hypothesize that the development of AI will have pretty profound ramifications, including ostensibly affecting the destiny of civilization and the fate of humanity.
Here’s how it happens.
According to recent news sources, Elon Musk, the world’s richest person at the moment, has been looking for top-tier AI experts to join a new AI enterprise he has in mind. Various AI developers and AI scientists are being approached surreptitiously. The knock on their door seemed to bring great hope and potentially lucrative news.
The alleged essence of the yet-to-be-disclosed AI venture is supposed to be a copycat of OpenAI’s widely and massively popular ChatGPT, which was published in November. You’ve almost probably heard or seen prominent coverage of ChatGPT. We’ll go over the ChatGPT in further detail shortly. There are several generative AI apps available today, and ChatGPT is one of them. This sort of AI is called Generative AI, and there are many other examples of it. Being the most well-known and seemingly well-known, ChatGPT is one that everyone seems to be aware of, including those who may be living in caves.
Here’s a glimpse of the news of this semi-secretive, quickly unfolding saga:
“Elon Musk has approached artificial intelligence researchers in recent weeks about forming a new research lab to develop an alternative to ChatGPT, the high-profile chatbot made by the startup OpenAI, according to two people with direct knowledge of the effort and a third person briefed on the conversations” (The Information, “Fighting ‘Woke AI,’ Musk Recruits Team to Develop OpenAI Rival”, Jon Victor and Jessica E. Lessin, Feb. 27, 2023).
Your initial reaction might be that Elon Musk should spend his money whatever he likes if he wants to create a ChatGPT copycat. We wish him luck. He will merely be enhancing an array of generative AI applications that is already present and expanding. Perhaps he’ll make even more money with his own customized ChatGPT. Or perhaps it will be a major disaster and the minimal dent in his immense wealth generated by the moderately priced quest will be equivalent to an accounting rounding mistake.
